What We Believe

Scripture The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.
God There is one, and only one, living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God is all powerful and all knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

Humans Humans are the special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is thus part of the goodness of God’s creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence whereby his posterity inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin. Therefore, as soon as they are capable of moral action, they become transgressors and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore, every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
Salvation
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.
A. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God’s grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace.
Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour.
B. Justification is God’s gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God.
C. Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God’s purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person’s life.
D. Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed.

Meet the Staff
Rich is a native of Johnson City. He began his ministry at Mountain View in 2004, where he served 8 years as the Youth Pastor. He has been the senior pastor since August, 2012. He holds a Masters in Christian Studies from Union University. He also has a B.S. degree in Construction Engineering Technology from East Tennessee State University and a M.S. in education from Arkansas State University. In addition to pastoring Mountain View, Rich is a construction teacher at Science Hill High School. He has been married to his beautiful wife Penny for 35 years and they have 3 children. His son Josh and wife Meme live in Bristol, TN and have one son, Ollie and one daughter, Maggie. His daughter Natalie and her husband Brett live in Jacksonville, FL. His youngest son, Noah, still lives at home and attends Greeneville High School.

My wife Jeanne and I have been married 47 years. We have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. I graduated from Carleton College in Northfield MN with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I asked Jesus in my heart to be my Lord and Savior in October 1973. In 1977 Jeanne and I experienced our first mission assignment with A Christian Ministry in the National Parks. But serving in a local church became our calling. I have served as a pastor for 42 years. I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Bethel Theological Seminary and completed all required class work toward a Doctor of Divinity Degree. But, life got in the way. In December of 1993, I was called to be a bi-vocational pastor at MVBC. I have been employed in business administration for the last 16 years. Life does get in the way, but it also provides endless opportunities to offer salvation to others.

Kelly (Sams) Davenport is a lifetime member of Mountain View Baptist Church and earned her Education Specialist degree from Union College. She is in her tenth year of teaching choir at David Crockett High School. She gladly welcomes anyone to participate in the MVBC music or audio visual ministries!

Ministry

“And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.” - Romans 10:15 CSB Mission Statement: We desire to see students know the power of the gospel, grow as disciples who make disciples, in order to fulfill their calling and purpose in the Great Commission. Viewpoint Student Ministries meets every Sunday at 5pm and Wednesday at 6:30pm. Check out our insta for more updates!
Men's &Women's Ministries

In an environment of acceptance and authenticity, our heart is to reach men and women inside and outside the church with the love of Christ, see them grow in their walk with the Lord, and apply God’s Word to their lives. Our desire is to encourage, equip, and strengthen men and women in their faith. Mountain View’s Ladies Ministry includes Bible studies, community service opportunities and events, such as retreats and one day conferences, and most importantly a special bond between sisters in Christ with a devout commitment to praying for each other on a routine basis. We believe that whatever gift the Lord has given each woman can be used in this ministry both inside the church and in the community, from painting, sewing, cooking to teaching and singing. Our Men's Ministry has Bible Study on Sunday evenings at 5pm, the occasional Men's Breakfast on Saturday mornings, along with service and volunteer opportunities for you to get involved!
